An interview with Ray Nagin, Mayor of New Orleans, which aired on CBS yesterday, proved interesting, after Nagin, apparently tired of carrying most of the public burden of the disaster that post-katrina was, lashed back by saying "That’s alright. I've spent the past two nights watching Spike Lee's "A Requiem For New Orleans", and its more than obvious that Spike Lee poured his heart out in the making of this documentary. Spike Lee, a proud New Yorker, really captured the heart of New Orleans, for an outsider.

Most critics missed the point, this documentary doesn't serve as a reminder of what happened in New Orleans, this 4-hour educational piece was put together to show what DIDN'T happen in New Orleans after Katrina. FEMA's slow response, Bush playing the guitar in California 3-days after Katrina, as if our country's largest supplier of oil had not been completely ravaged, and millions displaced. And to add injury to insult, after President Bush was quoted as saying that nobody expected the levee's to give in, a video surfaced showing that the federal government were briefed on the seriousness of Katrina.

As expected, Spike did his part in showing that African-Americans were mistreated, misplaced and missing, but in a catastrophic event of this nature, we are all one. New Orleans metropolitan area was 63% white before Katrina, and 47% of casualties, that were not African-American, were mostly white, proving that Katrina was an equal opportunity destroyer. While Lee spent 4 hours talking about the help that never made it to Louisiana, he didn't take one second to thank the help that did make its way down there. Overall, the documentary was very well put together, and shows that the U.S. was negligent in their response to Hurricaine Katrina. I think a more effective way Spike could've gotten his point across was to show more of how the media was ignorant and biased in their reports. Here are a few examples of Federal ignorance that were overlooked in the documentary, and if a 5th part was to ever be released, i believe these pieces should be examined.

Our mayor, and potential presidential candidate, Michael Bloomberg, announced yesterday that he will donate $125 million of his own money towards new anti-smoking campaign targeting tobacco worldwide.

The $125 million will go to existing organizations, over two years, to enforce anti-smoking measures. Plans include cash for programs that help smokers quit and educate children to prevent them from starting, funds to push for smoking bans and higher tobacco taxes in other cities, states and countries, and money for a system to track global tobacco use and the effectiveness of anti-smoking efforts.

Already in New York, Bloomberg has banned smoking in bars and restaurants, and has the health department working hard on anti-smoking campaigns, including giving out free nicottine-patches. This is a great PR move for Bloomberg, but also comes with great intentions. Behind every great leader is a great cause, Bloomberg has chosen his fight, and I think he's going to ride it all the way to the white house.

Chanel Petro-Nixon,16, was described as the perfect teen, and blessed with a beautiful smile, so why would some one want to harm her?

Chanel, who lived in the Bed-Stuy section of Brooklyn, left her home on Fathers Day, 2006, to meet a friend, and then go apply for a summer job at AppleBees...she never made it. A few days later, her body was discovered blocks away from her home, she was found in a garbage bag. Besides the fact that police have no leads or witnesses, this case has left a cold trail. Puzzling detectives even further is the fact that Chanel left her home on June 18th, her body wasn't found until four days later on June 22nd. The Medical Examiner puts the time of death at less than 24 hours before she was found. Where and what happened to her between the time she left her home and the time of death? Her body was found strangled, and had not been sexually assaulted, leaving no motive or clues.

This case is unique in many ways. She lived in a very busy section, where dozens of people are outside at any given time. She was one of ours, but the lack of media attention is disgusting. When Natalee Holloway was declared missing in Aruba, the whole country was saddened and constantly informed that this girl is missing, but in this case if it wasn't for the much needed and appreciated work of Errol Louis, a columnist for the New York Daily News, we would be left completely in the dark.

Louis, a member of the media, is a resident of Crown Heights, Brooklyn. He knows that this case is our fight, and we must take matters into our own hands. Thanks to a donation from the Daily News, the reward for information is at over $30,000. We ask for your help in solving this crime, and bringing peace to this family and community.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls are kept confidential.

After recent tragedy's and illegal activities in some of New York City night clubs, City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn is proposing that the city force all 250 of its nightclubs to install security cameras at entrances and exits.

While there are no clear details, the proposal would apply to nightclubs that operate with city-issued cabaret licenses that allow dancing. Any club owner refusing to comply will put themselves at risk of having their license revoked. These propositions have already began a wave of backlash. Complaints of invasion of privacy, and high cost of installation are at the top of the list. 9 out of 10 law-abiding club-goers could care less about cameras, but to no surprise, the gay community is furious and leads the rally against the decision. If a camera could solve a crime, im all for it. It's confusing and hard to defend not setting up these cameras because some people are not out of the closet, for a lack of better words. We have all come to the conclusion that gay lifestyle is acceptable, so what's to hide? The cameras, regardless of Council Speaker Quinn's political aspirations, promote safer environments, not candid cameras. My mother once said, if you aren't ashamed of something, or see any wrong in it, don't hide it.

If the people proposing this law really fear for our safety, why not help finance the installation of these cameras, which average about $8,000-10,000. I for one have nothing to hide, plus I wouldn't mind having footage of my expensive outfit, a more reason to shine. This could be a step to bring back normalcy, and allow people to have fun without fear. I mean, atleast now if a bouncer roughs you up, you could have proof. And what about, if your'e a victim of a fight at a club? No one likes to take precaution until they're the victims.

By Max Cohen

Not even minutes passed after a plane crashed into the Twin Towers, conspiracy theorists voiced their opinions on what really happened that day on September 11th. Alex Jones, a radio jockey, and part-time conspiracy theorists, broke the mold...and actually dug up facts that point to a government-led attack. Please save your hate-mail, and avoid getting possible carpal tunnel syndrome, from banging on the keyboard, just to tell me how much you hate the fact that people would even assume such things.

See...that's the problem, Alex Jones is not assuming these things, he shows proof, that is easily obtainable. His latest documentary "TerrorStorm" takes you back in time, and shows proof that the U.S. and other world powers take grave action to start wars. Of course we're not going to know about it, and if we even find proof, it'll be decades later.
