10/11?

A small plane crashed into an Upper East Side high-rise Wednesday, killing two people, and filling the air with black smoke, a chilling flashback to what New York residents encountered on September 11th, 2001.

Two deaths were confirmed by the NYPD, but FBI officials are indicating that this does not appear to be an act of terrorism. The address of the building is 524 E. 72nd Street — a 50-story condominium tower, with 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million.

Mayor Bloomberg rushed to the scene to survey the damage done by the aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration has stated that it is too early to determine what kind of aircraft struck the building. As many red flags as this crash raises, I can't believe federal officials are pursuing this as an accident, rather than a terrorist attack. That same response is what didn't prepare us for the 2nd plane that struck the towers. I don't think the fact that it is October 11, is a coincidence either, exactly one month after the 5th anniversary of the WTC attacks...

Update: 4 people have been confirmed dead, the driver of the plane and three residents from the building that was hit.

New York Yankees Manager Joe Torre told CNN that the plane that was a Cirrus SR-20 registered to team pitcher Cory Lidle. Lidle's passport was found at the scene, and it has been confirmed that the professional pitcher was indeed the pilot, and is dead.First responders to the New York plane crash say an emergency call was made from the plane indicating a possible fuel problem.

Leaning Tower

Tower Records has scratched its last vinyl. In about 6-weeks time, the 46-year old music retailer will be nothing but a memory.

Due to chronic revenue loss, Tower Records auctioned off its assets for $134.3 million to liquidation firm Great American Group. All 89 nationwide retail locations, including its 8 New York stores are having a liquidation sale on all of its products, which will last for about an estimated six weeks, before finally closing...for good.

In an e-mail circulated Friday to Tower's staff, founder and CEO, Russ Solomon said, "The fat lady has sung ... she was way off key. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You."

"New York City, if you can make it here...you can make it anywhere!", New York's the city of big dreams, but it seems like a dream deffered when inflation inflates.

Over-caffeinated 9-5er's volunatarily pay over $5 for a cup of coffee, which even at will seems questionable, but what happens when the price of everyday items like Milk and other dairy products begin to cost us more every year. New Yorker's will now have to pay $0.25 more for a gallon of milk, and that's only in big supermarkets, prices may vary in bodegas.

Rent is at unbelievable high's in NY, making grown men bunking with roomie's like dorm buddies, an every-day reality. From what I hear things are looking so bleek, that developers have already began searching for prime locations in The Bronx! When one borough becomes over-crowded, they try to promote the next closest thing to the city. I'm going to spare you my rants on gas prices, $2 fares on the MTA, over-priced cable TV, only thing that seems bright in this city is...the lights. Work seems like running on a treadmill chasing a carrot on a stick. NYC means different things to different people, but the true meaning became obvious to me when I looked at my expense reports and picked up a check and realized that they are basically telling me..."This is Not Your Check".

The Manhattan School for Children is making an example out of parents, by making them serve detention alongside their kids, whenever a student is late to school...seriously.

Microsoft has been running around putting up ads all over NYC promoting their new mp3 player Zune.

Not to be left too far behind, Google are doing big things, your search-engine's favorite search-engine just opened up their new a 300,000-square foot, three-floor office that covers a Manhattan city block.
