Shockey won't go to Super Bowl

Injured New York Giants Tight End, Jeremy Shockey has decided not to go to Arizona and join his teammates for Super Bowl XLII. Teammates pleaded with Shockey, he even received personal invites from several members of the organization, but Shockey insisted he did not want to be a distraction, and reportedly did not want to wander through the large crowd on crutches.

It was said that Shockey sent his team an inspirational message, which is now hanging on their locker room wall. Shockey's a man with a lot of pride, I wouldn't judge him for his actions, I could almost guarantee it's killing him inside that he can't play on Sunday...[Source: Daily News]

Britney Spears Admitted into Psych Ward

Witnesses say the motorcade was as long as a football field, and included two helicopters! It's funny how much resources we have for celebs, while the poor people in New Orleans get denied access to everyday needs....smh

Exclusive: ReachNYC.com Endorses Barack Obama!

When Barack Obama first stepped into the scene, he was perceived as just a clean-cut, well-spoken African American, who could possibly make headlines while campaigning.

Months later, Barack Obama is now America's Savior. Obama is a breathe of fresh air. Yes, Barack is a freshman in a class full of seniors, but not even the patriotic sense of feeling we felt post-9/11 could help save this country. If anything we are far worse than we have ever been. Gas prices, taxes, mortgage rates, cost of living, heck! even the price of dairy products went up. It's simply amazing how stagnant this country's state of mind is.

It seems as if no one cares, and some with cause, but when was the last time anything was done for A-M-E-R-I-C-A? All we hear is Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Hugo Chavez, Israel...but what about Crown Heights, Brooklyn? It's not about black or white, it's about change. Senator Hillary Clinton campaigned with her husband during his successful run for president, it's obvious she shares the same ideals as him. People refer to Bill Clinton's era as one of the best in recent history, but it was actually the opposite. Bill Clinton was lucky to have the '.com' boom and other technological advances that helped the economy, and reflected well on him.

Democrats in 22 states across America go to the polls next Tuesday to pick between the two presidential prospects, Sens. Clinton and Obama. We strongly urge that everyone votes for Barack Obama!

Update: Barack Obama Calls Hillary Clinton a 'Republican'

Freddy's Back...Again

Horror production company Platinum Dunes, is in talks with New Line Cinema to re-launch the 'Nightmare On Elm St.' movie series.

The first 'Nightmare' movie was released in 1984 by Wes Craven. The over-night success spawned numerous sequels and birthed one of the most franchised villains in screen history, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund.

A screenwriter will be hired once the Writers Guild of America strike ends. The storyline will allegedly focus on Krueger's back-story. If there's one villain I would love to see return, it's Freddy Krueger. I think he's the only person to have actually scared more 80's babies than Michael Jackson...Oops.

Obama Denies Snubbing Hillary

Senator Obama is seeking to dismiss all rumors that he deliberately turned his back on his rival Hillary Clinton, during Monday night's State Of The Union address. Looking at the picture above, one would suggest that he was turning his back on Hillary, but with cameras everywhere nowadays, and dirty-minded bloggers, and individual members of the media, I would save my judgment until I hear from those that were actually in attendance.

"I was turning away because Claire asked me a question as Sen. Kennedy was reaching for her," Obama explained to reporters aboard his campaign plane. "Sen. Clinton and I have had very cordial relations off the floor and on the floor."

"I waved to her as I was coming into the Senate chamber before we walked over last night," he said. "I think there's just a lot more tea-leaf reading going on here than I think people are suggesting."

John Edwards To Quit Prez Race

Democrat John Edwards is exiting the presidential race today, ending a campaign in which he was an underdog, but still maintained a respectful campaign and following.

Edwards is expected to make the announcement today at 1 pm in New Orleans, where he was scheduled to give a 'speech on poverty'. The obvious decision came after Edwards lost the four states to hold nominating contests to rivals who stole the spotlight (Clinton and Obama).

This now makes it a 2-person race, with no indication as to who he will endorse. Personally, I liked the guy, in fact, in my personal-poll he was second behind Barack. I would not mind having the guy as a vice-President. His strong ideals and family-oriented mentality is exactly what this country needs. After his speech, Edwards is expected to join Habitat For Humanity, in its efforts to rebuild Musicians' Village in New Orleans...What a winner.

Super Tuesday In NY For Obama Fans

Grid Skipper has put together a list of local events dedicated to Barack Obama's campaign.

"As you can imagine, events are popping up all over New York in support of the svelte senator as he heads into Super Tuesday, so we've compiled a list of local Barack events sure to be filled with lots of eating, drinking, and ridiculous amounts of 'hope' and 'change'."

J. Lo Checks into L.I. Hospital?

Rumors are swirling that Jennifer Lopez has checked herself into North Shore Hospital in Long Island. As expected, the hospital is denying the rumor, but visitors to the hospital have said that they have over-heard nurses whispering about the 'J.Lo Room'. J. Lo is expecting twins, a rep for her husband Marc Anthony has debunked all rumors. (Read More)

2, your not a winner and 3, nobody remembers

It is all but over for former NY Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Finishing third in the Florida Primary, Giuliani headed for the exits early as McCain ended in first, also beating out Mitt Romney.

Officials close to his camp are suggesting Giuliani is in early discussions with McCain's advisers on a possible endorsement later in the week.

Hillary/Bill Clinton took the democratic race, which drew no campaigning from Obama and Edwards. They deferred their attention rather to
next week's "Super Tuesday" contests in states such as New York, California, Missouri and Georgia.

Fulton St. Transit Hub Snub

Originally labeled as a centerpiece of Lower Manhattan's revival after 9/11, the Fulton St. transit hub project has reached a road block. Rising real estate and construction costs have turned this project, which once labeled as a rival to Grand Central Station, into just another train station.

The glass-dome building pictured above will be replaced with a street level plaza. Amazingly, the MTA says they are over $400 million over-budget! And will open in 2010, not in 2009 as agreed.

The Fulton Street will connect the R/W subway lines and allow transfers to the 2, 3, 4, 5, A and C lines. The MTA is going back to the drawing board, no one knows what will happen to the above ground shopping plaza. Reports have surfaced that several companies were interested in investing in the property but the MTA acquired the property with eminent domain, legally it might be difficult to turn it over to a private company. What no one is mentioning is all the people and business' that have been kicked out to make all of this happen...only to find out that its still just going to be a big rat-hole...

Report: Mets Land Pitcher Johan Santana

The New York Mets have taken their first step on their way to recovery. The Mets have come to an agreement with the Minnesota Twins to trade for Cy Young Winner Johan Santana. In return, the Twins will receive outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitchers Phil Humber, Deolis Guerra and Kevin Mulvey.

The deal is reportedly worth around $150 million over a 6-year period. After all the paperwork is done, all Santana has to do is pass a physical. This is a strong indication that the Mets will be a problem in the National League. Lets see how it all works out.

"It's Time To Move On"

New Jersey Nets star point-guard Jason Kidd wants out, and he's making no secret about it. After losing 9-straight games, including a loss to the Minnesota T'wolves (the worst team in the league), J-Kidd made no effort to hide his distaste for playing on this team.

"It's time for us all to move on. Sometimes, when you ride a wave, you get to the end and that's all there is. That's where we are," Kidd said in the interview.

"It used to be if I got a triple-double, that was an automatic win. That's just not the case now. We tried to make this work. We've found out it doesn't. It's time for us all to move on.''

I could see Kidd playing for his old team, the Dallas Mavericks, but the Nets seem adamant in getting something of equal value in return, something few teams have to offer. One things for sure, if Kidd does not get traded before the trade deadline in a few weeks, he will be making a lot of peoples lives a living hell.

Hate Crime Arrest In Brooklyn

We'll Make NY Proud

"We have to man, it's the greatest city in the world - I ain't talking about the country, I mean the whole world, so we definitely have to make 'em proud," Osi Umenyiora said to the NY Post. "We're gonna give it all we got, it's a hard-working city, they love winners out here, so we're gonna try to do that for 'em."

"You can see just how excited this city gets when the Yankees are in a World Series," David Diehl said. "I can only imagine what it's gonna be like here on Sunday."

"A lot of people take pride in the Boston-New York rivalry, and a lot people just have an overbearing pride for New York itself in being one of the greatest cities in the world," Kareem Mckenzie said. "So it's very humbling for myself and very exciting to be able to represent the NY Giants in the Super Bowl."

The Go-Green East Harlem Cookbook

For a city plagued by high obesity rates and diabetes, staying away from fatty foods is essential. A new book titled 'Go Green East Harlem Cookbook' is giving you an alternative to Crown Fried Chicken's and Chinese take-out.

The new book is in English and Spanish and features recipes from restaurant owners and community members like Patrice Clayton, owner of the
Harlem Tea Room.

This cookbook couldn't have arrived at a better time, with child obesity and asthma through the roofs. "All too often, communities that have been left out and ignored tend to have the highest rate of unhealthy eating," said Manhattan borough president Scott Stringer to ABC 7.

Stringer, surprisingly edited the cookbook. He doesn't actually cook, but contributed tips for healthy take-out. Though the title of the book is aimed for a certain community, I believe every borough should take heed and come up with healthier food alternatives as opposed to waiting for someone to do something about US getting fatter.

'The Last Bomb' NYC's Graffiti History

"The current era in graffiti is characterized by a majority of graffiti artists moving from subway or train cars to "street galleries." The Clean Train Movement started in May, 1989, when New York attempted to remove all of the subway cars found with graffiti on them out of the transit system. Because of this, many graffiti artists had to resort to new ways to express themselves. Much controversy arose among the streets debating whether graffiti should be considered an actual form of art."

Barack N' Roll

Barack Obama steamrolled over Hillary Clinton in the South Carolina Primary, convincingly.

The Clintons were furious. "Jesse Jackson won South Carolina in '84 and '88. Jackson ran a good campaign. And Obama ran a good campaign here," Clinton said.

"We are up against the idea that it's acceptable to say anything and do anything to win an election." Obama shot back.

5 Yr Old Handcuffed In School

How could any legally-sane adult come to the conclusion that placing a 5-yr-old under arrest is acceptable? This incident raises alot of red flags about our legal system as a whole.

"The child assaulted the assistant principal...slapped the assistant principal"

Amazing. Add a looming recession, and this NYPD debacle, and it seems to me that morale is at an all time low in this state, if not the country.

Update: School officials place 10-yr old student under arrest. smh.

Wow...you can't make this stuff up. RIP Martin Luther King.

Osama Bin Laden's Son Breaks His Silence

"I'm not going to tell anybody about his place, if I know where he is"

Omar Bin Laden talks with NBC about his father, and his goal of getting President Bush and Osama Bin Laden to sit down and talk...That'll be an interesting conversation. They should let Hugo Chavez mediate it.

Portraits From The Bowery Mission

Bill Bernstein will open his latest exhibit today at the Bowery Mission Headquarters. 'About Face, Portraits from The Bowery Mission'.

The exhibit captures what most of us turn away from in the streets, the homeless.

"These are for the most part the unseen people of the city," said Bernstein. "We don't look at them. We don't want to see their faces for whatever reason. We see them on the corner. We walk around them. So I wanted to focus everything on their faces so we could really see what we're not looking at."

About Face is at the Bowery Mission headquarters at Madison Avenue and 31st Street through the end of the year. The exhibit is open to the public. Read More

Eli On SI!

Sports Illustrated all of a sudden wants to feature red-hot QB Eli Manning. Obviously, this is a gift, with all the attention it's bringing New York...but not many of you know that there is a curse associated with being featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated (see previous cover with Brett Favre). But I don't think it's enough to hold us back! G-Men!!

LeBronx Bomber

This is an exclusive look at the new Air Zoom Lebron V from Nike. Lebron James, the Cleveland Cavalier Small-Forward is showing love to his favorite baseball team, with this New York Yankees inspired sneaker. This is an instant classic, when you look underneath the strap, it reads: "Fresh For '08. Suckers! and under the tongue “Le-Bron Ja-Mes. Clap. Clap. Clap Clap Clap”, the chant made famous by Yankee Fans. This sneaker will be released in March and will only be made available in New York.

Does anyone still remember when Lebron James showed up at the AL Playoff game between the Cleveland Indians and the Yankees...in the Indians ballpark!? With a Yankees Cap on!! That took some serious n...guts.
