Democrat Andrew Cuomo, defeated Republican Jeanine Pirro to become NY's Attorney General.

Democrat Eliot Spitzer, defeated Republican John Faso to become New York's first new governor in 12 years.

Democrat Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, won re-election over Republican John Spencer.

City officials are moving forward with plans to install surveillance video cameras on Manhattan buses. It will cost an estimated $5 million to install cameras in about 450 buses by June 2007, with plans to cover their whole Manhattan fleet to follow.

New York City is considering a proposal that would allow transgender people to have their birth certificate reflect their preferred gender regardless of whether they have had sex-change surgery or not. The plan would only apply to those born in NYC.

Diego Pillco, 19, a construction worker has admitted to the slaying of 40-year-old actress, Adrienne Shelly. The murder first appeared as a suicide, when she was discovered hanging in her bathroom, but with heavy doubt coming from the parents of the victim, officers dug deeper. Pillco was ordered held without bail pending a Thursday hearing.

Megan Zacher, 22, of Delanco, N.J. claims she fell off a slippery bar and injured herself at Calico Jack's Cantina on 42nd Street and Second Avenue, while dancing in a "Shake-It-Like-Shakira" contest is suing the Manhattan saloon. Zacher claims she suffered a torn knee ligament that required surgery.
