Red Sox 2, Yanks 0

The Boston Red Sox completed a 4-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies, to win their 2nd World Series title in 4 years. Unfortunately, they're looking more like an empire and our beloved Yanks are looking like a wimpire :(

A-Rod Opts Out Of Contract

To no ones surprise, Alex Rodriguez has decided to opt out of his contract with the Yankees, voiding the $72 million in guaranteed salary left in the contract. The decision was publicized during game 4 of the World Series.

"Alex's decision was one based on not knowing what his closer, his catcher and one of his statured pitchers was going to do. He really didn't want to make any decisions until he knew what they were doing." Scott Boras, [A-Rod's agent] said during a phone interview.

Sweet Talk

In protest of a looming fare hike, the Straphangers Campaign handed out customized candies at the monthly board meeting of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

One of the candies was an"Oh Eliot!" bar (above).

It’s really a plea to the governor, which is, ‘Oh, Eliot, please come to the rescue of the riding public,” said Gene Russianoff, the staff lawyer for the Straphangers, a rider advocacy group."

Other candies included a pink and white box of "Gov & Plenty". Comedy.

Didn't Quite Cut It

The New York Knicks have cut ties with Allan Houston, after slow progress in an already over the limit roster. In Houston's 1-game return, which unfortunately was against the NBA's latest juggernaut, the Boston Celtic's, Allan seemed weeks away from being ready to suit up.

"I think it is better for the team to move on without me," Houston said in a release.

It was a brave decision, and maybe the right one....but something tells me he's only playing possom, and will return if Knicks are in shape to reach playoffs.

Torrn Apart

Joe Torre rejects Yankees 1-year offer. Again...I'm completely speechless...I don't even know where I stand as a fan...

Hitler Is Back?

Another hate crime has rocked the city, a school librarian at Murray Bergtraum High School in Lower EastSide discovered 22 swastikas in green chalk on walls and doors all over the school. The words "Hitler is Back" were also found scrawled on a door. This is beginning to get repetitive, and almost seems like its a game of monkey see, monkey do. This is about the 10th incident in about the last 2 months, and though it's obviously disgusting and distasteful... something tells me it's more 'junior high prank' than American History X. Regardless, whoever's responsible should be punished to the fullest extent of the law!

Weed It And Weep

Local Queens cops walking the beat had their noses tickled by the smell of marijuana, leading them to a stash with a street value of about $500,000.

Police found 300 live marijuana plants 10 lawn bags filled with drying weed in a one-story house on 269th St. in Floral Park Wednesday, after officers detected the odor of pot the night before. Three men were charged in the raid, and in an even more bizarre twist, the alleged weed-carriers split a power line, causing their neighbors bill to inflate from $300 to $800. It's going to be a dry winter....

City Offering Billion-Dollar 9/11 Settlement

The City wants to negotiate a settlement with 9,000 Ground Zero workers who blame their deteriorating health on toxins inhaled at the site. Knowing the way the legal system works, if these people are looking at atleast a decade long court battle, this settlement seems like the best short term solution, but realistically speaking, it will hardly be enough to cover any long-term illnesses of thousands of people.

Im-Baaacck

Six months after leaving the airwaves in disgrace, Don Imus allegedly inked a multi-million dollar contract with WABC-AM/770 to become the talk station's new morning drive-time host. This rumor has the internet on fire! something tells me it's not a rumor...

Yankees hold off Indians, 8-4, Trail series 2-1

The Yankees got off to an ugly start in game 3 of the ALDS against the Cleveland Indians. Trailing 3-1 Johnny Damon hit a much needed 3-run homer that put the Yankees back on track in the series.

Roger Clemen's was only able to contribute 3 innings in wat looked like his final outting as he walked off the mound with his head down. Game 4 is tomorrow night at Yankee Stadium. Before the game, Yankee owner George Steinbrenner sounded off, telling the media that coach Joe Torre's job depended on the Yankees post-season success.

"His job is on the line. I think we're paying him a lot of money. He's the highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don't think we'd take him back if we don't win this series."

Rockerfeller Center Ice-Skating Rink Officially Open

Rockerfeller Center Ice-Skating Rink Officially Opened this past saturday, though more people opted to go to the beach than put on a pair of skates.

As temperature's soared in the high-70's, lightly dressed people could be seen skating around as if that was the place to be. I missed the grand opening, but I'll be sure to check it out soon.

Bunnies Take-over Manhattan

New Sony commercial shot in New York City.

No matter what the question, Rudy Says 9/11

Former NY Mayor and current Presidential candidate, Rudy Gulliani, seems to find comfort in answering every question with "9/11". Obviously, the leadership skills he demonstrated post-9-11, made him America's Mayor, but now its getting a little watered down. Sometimes it even seems as if journalists try their best to separate the interview as far away from 9/11 as possible...but it seems Rudy like just reels em in....

SHOULD THERE BE FEDERAL FUNDING FOR AIDS DRUGS?

"I don't want to promise you the federal government will take over the role. My general experience has been that the federal government works best when it helps and assists and encourages and sets guidelines on a state-by-state, locality-by-locality basis. It's no different from the way I look at homeland security. Maybe having been mayor of the city, I know that your first defense against terrorist attack is that local police station, or that local firehouse."

- July rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

HOW ABOUT THOSE DEMOCRATS?

"They do not seem to get the fact that there are people - terrorists in this world, really dangerous people - that want to come here and kill us. That in fact they did come here and kill us."

- May interview with Fox News
