Basket-Brawl

The Knicks vs Denver game erupted into a brawl with 1:15 left in the game, on Saturday. Leading by 19 points, with their starting line-up still on the floor, Denver Nuggets began showing off by repeatedly trying to dunk.

Rookie Mardy Collins took exception to this and distastefuly fouled Denver's J.R. Smith. After that a mini-riot ensued with Nate Robinson (he's only 5' 9") displayig a heart of a lion in the land of the giants. The NBA's leading scorer, Carmelo Anthony, sucker punched Collins, prompting Jarred Jefferies to chase Anthony around the court. While violence shouldn't be condoned, events like this not only wake up the sleeping beast in teams like the Knicks, it helps them take pride in their team. I guarantee you that every player will wear their heart on their sleeves every time they step foot on that court.

Shopping For Justice

An estimated 40,000 people participated in the Al Sharpton-led protest down Fifth Ave. on Saturday, December, 16th, to protest the fatal shooting of Sean Bell, by Police.

Bell's fiance, Nicoule Paultre-Bell and Trent Benefield, who was also shot and injured in the incident and is currently in a wheelchair, were joined by a swarm of people who gathered at 59th and Fifth Ave., at around noon. Minutes later they began counting to 50, which equals the number of bullets fired by police in the controversial shooting. After the countdown, the sea of people flowed south on Fifth Ave., towards 34th street. It felt as if there were as many shoppers as protestors, making it a serious situation for the more than 1,000 cops stationed en route.

People stopped everything they were doing and focused on the large crowd, even showing signs of support. Besides pushing and shoving, the march went without confrontation. I think Al Sharpton couldn't have delivered a stronger message if he'd Fed-Exed it to us. Other media outlets are calling Al Sharpton an "opportunist", but I don't see anyone else publicly speaking out and voicing the publics real opinion...besides us of course.

Traffic delays, over population, budgeting problems, all problems that could spiral out of control in the future. Bloomberg is saying all the right things, hopefully future mayors can carry the torch.

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

Even though the weather's pretty warm, it's starting to feel like Christmas already. Thousands of spectators lined up at Rockefeller Center to see the lighting of the Christmas Tree, this passed Tuesday.

The 88-foot Norway spruce from western Connecticut, decorated with more than 30,000 lights, lit up at 8:58pm, as the crowd gazed in amazement. The sight was truly amazing, and something everyone should witness. The tree will remain on display through January 8th.

Of course, for those of you who missed the event, there's footage so you can relive the moment...
