Long Beach recruits its first Black Officers since 1968

The swearing-in of two Long Beach, LI police officers next week will mark the first time blacks are hired for the mostly white police force in 38-years.

Long Beach has a Black population of nearly 7 percent, with not a single person being an officer in the nearly 75-member force. All of that will change on Wednesday, November 15th, when City Manager Edwin Eaton swears in two Black officers. Their names are being witheld for privacy reasons but we'll be more than happy to tell you that the officers will be making $42,485 respectively (starting annual salary).
