I always knew there was something in their coffee, now Starbucks is being sued, for $114 million, after canceling a free coffee coupon. A New York man was killed and a 14-yr old traveling with him injured, after a high speed chase ended in a crash. The driver Adam Mauro, was being pulled over for driving eratically, but there was more in store. Mauro, had kidnapped the 14 yr old boy, and was obviously trying to avoid police, when he crossed a median and collided with an 18-wheeler Thursday, he was killed instantly, the young boy is listed in stable condition.

Harlem Kids get new Cultural Center

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Governor George E. Pataki and Police Athletic League of New York City (PAL) Executive Director John J. Ryan today joined community leaders to announce the opening of the Harlem Armory as a multi-purpose athletic, educational and cultural center for children. The $6.4 million reconstruction project, administered by the PAL, was made possible by a combination of City, State and Federal contributions.

The renovated facility houses six modern tennis courts, two multi-purpose courts, three classrooms, a computer room and office space. It will offer children numerous hands-on, after-school activities such as track and field, volleyball, basketball, tennis, rock climbing, martial arts, boxing and gymnastics, as well as enrichment programs, such as tutoring, mentoring, computer training, SAT preparation and public speaking.

It will also provide community residents with a new, state-of-the-art venue for large public events, including concerts, graduation ceremonies and festivals. Space for a radio and television station has also been constructed to overlook the floor of the drill shed, giving youth training and experience in broadcasting and filming events taking place at the Armory. In what is apparently the first of its kind in this country, The Big Apple is launching a beer trail to attract drinkers from all over to guzzle inside its nearly 60 breweries, microbreweries and brew pubs.

To kick off the trail, a Beer festival will be held at SouthStreet Seaport, this friday. The trail will also be marked by signs along major highways, with more information being available in a 36-page brochure. The New York Brew Fest will feature over 100 beers from 58 different breweries in the state, along with an abundance of food, and live music from local blues bands. 23 people were injured today in an accident between a city bus and a tractor-trailer, in Staten Island. 20 people were taken to local hospitals, with none of the injuries being life-threatening. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
